It's called that because of its red color. At least, I don't think any blood was involved in it. It's a mineral that has magic-cancelling properties. Which is why I can't keep it too close to the spire itself, except in very small quantities, and shouldn't handle it myself.
The sorcerers... I don't know that much about them. They aren't keen on speaking to me, except about construction matters. They're native to the area. Aellyn, they're called. But, they're loyal to Caer Scima, and in turn, willing to serve the baronies.
